Canes Travel to Lubbock for Texas Tech Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After a week of rest, the Miami track and field program travels to Lubbock, Texas, for the Texas Tech Invitational for the second straight season. 
 
After an explosive weekend in Vanderbilt, Miami will compete against a number of top tier teams in the likes of   host school Texas Tech, Baylor, NC State, USC, UNLV, Texas A&M, NCA&T, Ohio State, Tennessee, Arizona, Boise State, Florida State and a number of others. 
 
On the women’s side, six teams are ranked in the Top 25 with No. 1 USC, No. 7 Texas A&M, No. 12 FSU, the No. 16 Red Raiders, No. 22 Baylor and Ohio State rounding it out at No. 24. The competition is just as hot on the men’s side with eight ranked teams, again including the No. 1 team, FSU. Along with the Noles, four more teams are ranked in the Top 10, USC (No. 3), A&M (No.5), Baylor (No.8) and NCA&T (No. 9). Tennessee, Tech and Iowa State also join the ranked men this weekend.

Senior Raheem Chambers highlights the men’s team after running the second-fastest 60m time in the world this season at Vanderbilt. His time of 6.57 seconds earned him ACC Track Athlete of the Week and improved his previous 60m Miami record. Freshman Justin Forde broke into Miami’s top 5 in the men’s triple jump in his debut with the Canes with his mark of 15.71m, ranking second in program history. Hasani Knight was close behind with his mark of 15.58m and third best mark in Miami history. 
 
Miami women will showcase its first 4×400 relay of the season with Brittny Ellis, Kayla Johnson, Tiara McMinn and DeAnna Nowling. Nowling will make her first appearance as a Cane in an individual event in the 60m dash. Junior Amuru Patterson is also making her first appearance on the track this season in both the 60m and the 200m.
