Miami Announces Date For Celebration of Women's Athletics

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami athletic department will host the sixth annual Celebration of Women’s Athletics on Feb. 9, as announced by the department on Wednesday.

The event kicks off at 2 p.m. when the Miami women’s basketball team takes on Atlantic Coast Conference rival Duke at the Watsco Center. Following the game, attendees are invited to make their way to the Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility with CWA programming beginning at 5 p.m.

“We are excited to announce the sixth annual Celebration of Women’s Athletics event,” Director of Athletics Blake James said. “The Building Women’s Champions campaign has evolved into one of our core fundraising initiatives, and the CWA is our signature fundraising event which supports all of our female student-athletes. I encourage all members of the Miami family to attend the CWA and make this year’s event the best one yet!”

The Hurricanes will continue to support UM’s Building Women Champions Campaign during this year’s CWA, a campaign designed to develop leaders and prepare women to be successful in life beyond athletic competition. Sponsorship of the CWA includes exclusive benefits that strengthen the impact on UM female student-athletes.

“At The U, we are committed to providing the best experience for our student-athletes, to excel both on the playing fields and beyond,” said Jennifer Strawley, Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Operating Officer and Senior Woman Administrator. “The support of the Miami community through our Building Women Champions Campaign is transformational to student-athletes, and it is creating the next generation of leaders in our communities. We look forward to celebrating our student-athletes achievements at this year’s Celebration of Women’s Athletics!”

The Celebration of Women’s Athletics honors current Miami female student-athletes from each of UM’s nine women’s programs for excellence on the playing field, as well as in the classroom and community. It also recognizes some of the pioneers who have helped pave the way for the continued success of women’s athletics at Miami.

The CWA was founded in 2015 by University of Miami Board of Trustees members Hilarie Bass, Barbara Havenick and Laurie Silvers. The proceeds from the CWA are used to provide UM female student-athletes with first-class opportunities to compete, study and become the next generation of leaders.

Tickets to the Celebration of Women’s Athletics are $50 per person and includes admission to the women’s basketball game against Duke.
