Miami Golf Finishes Eighth at ACC Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 20-ranked University of Miami golf team carded a 37-over-par 901 to close out the 31st Annual ACC Women’s Golf Championship in Greensboro, N.C. in eighth.

“Well, I hope regionals goes better,” Miami head coach Patti Rizzo said. “It was a tough week, but not exactly sure why. We will work hard this upcoming week in practice and get back on track.”

The Hurricanes will now await its placement in NCAA Regionals, with the selection show scheduled to air Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. on the Golf Channel.

Recording 15 par or better holes on Saturday, sophomore Kristyna Frydlova paced the Hurricanes with a two-over-par performance. Overall, with six birdies over the 54 holes, the Prague, Czech Republic, native capped the event tied for 26th with a nine-over 225.

Opening the afternoon strong with back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th holes, graduate student Claudia De Antonio wrapped up the tournament with her first top-25 finish of the season, tying for 23rd at eight-over-par.

Tying De Antonio for the most birdies by a Hurricane on Saturday, Anna Backman recorded three in the morning to finish three-over-par. Overall, the freshman rounded out her first ACC Championship with a 13-over 229, tied for 44th.

A pair of juniors, Macarena Aguilera and Renate Grimstad, closed out the event tied for 38th, registering three-round total scores of 12-over 228.
