Miami Women Ranked No. 10 by USTFCCCA
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s track and field program ranks 10th in week two of the NCAA DI Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings, as announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross County Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA).
Sixteen marks, including 14 from last season, combined to make up Miami’s team score of 183.51.
The Canes’ two relay teams posted top-five times in the 4×100 and the 4×400 to give Miami 53.26 points at the Florida Relays. Carolyn Brown, Alfreda Steele, Symone Mason and Tiara McMinn boast the NCAA’s third-fastest 4x100m relay time, which also ranks as the third-fastest time in program history.
Mason was joined by Brittny Ellis, Samantha Gonzalez and Kayla Johnson in the 4x400m relay to run a time of 3:32.22, which ranks fifth in the nation.
Mason, Johnson and Debbie Ajagbe all have two scored individual events from last season, with both Mason and Johnson having top times in the 400m dash.
Ten of Miami’s scored events from last season came on the track, while four occurred during field events. Gonzalez and Mason’s fifth-ranked times in the 400m hurdles and the 400m dash, respectively, were the top marks for the Canes last season.
Senior Michelle Atherley’s sixth-ranked score in the heptathlon was the next best score for the Canes, adding 21.76 points.
Miami is set to host its final home meet of the season on April 12-13 for the Hurricane Alumni Invitational.
