No. 19 Miami Sits in a Tie for Fourth
ARGYLE, Texas – The No. 19-ranked University of Miami golf team wrapped up the first day of action at the Bruzzy Invitational sitting in a tie for fourth, while a quartet of Canes finished the opening two rounds at par or better.
Competing at the par 72, 6,421-yard Lantana Golf Club, the Hurricanes closed out the afternoon with a score of seven-over, 569.
“The team is really close to shooting great,” Miami head coach Patti Rizzo said. “Just a couple small mistakes that we have to rid of, but I believe we will make a charge tomorrow.”
Sophomore Kristyna Frydlova led the charge with nine birdies and closed out the afternoon tied for ninth with a three-under, 141.
Frydlova was followed closely by junior teammate Renate Grimstad, who tallied five birdies and an eagle on the par-five, 506-yard third hole, to head into Tuesday’s final day of competition tied for 14th at two-under, 142.
Opening the first three holes at two-over par, freshman Anna Backman bounced back with three birdies over the next 11 holes to move to 1-under-par. Overall, she closed out the opening round at even par, before adding four more birdies to her resume in the second round, to move into a tie for 21st at one-under, 143.
Junior Macarena Aguilera sits in a tie for 28th at even par, highlighted by a four birdie, two-under-par, second round performance.
Graduate student Claudia De Antonio finished one stroke back of Aguilera and sits in a tie for 35th, carding six birdies on Monday.
Sophomore Serena Hou rounded out the Miami lineup, scoring a 167 to sit in 84th.

Following the conclusion of the Bruzzy Invitational, Miami will take a 16-day hiatus from tournament play before teeing off at the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C., April 18-20.
