No. 24 Miami Set to Compete in Gator Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 24-ranked University of Miami golf team heads north to open competition Sunday at the Florida Gators Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. This year’s event will take place at the par 70, 6,701-yard Marl Bostick Golf Course.
The tournament will consist of 54 holes over a two-day stretch, with the first two rounds set to be played Saturday with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun. Play will then continue into the second round at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday’s final round will begin with a shotgun time of 9 a.m.
A quintet of Hurricanes—graduate student Claudia De Antonio, juniors Macarena Aguilera and Renate Grimstad, sophomore Kristyna Frydlova and freshman Anna Backman—will make the trip and will each tee off against NC State and Clemson student-athletes.
In their most recent tournament action, the Hurricanes placed ninth against a loaded tournament field that featured eight other teams listed in the top 25 on golfstat.com. Miami was paced by Backman, the reigning ACC Golfer of the Month, as posted her third career top-25 finish. The freshman closed out the event with 41 par or better holes and six birdies to finish tied for 22nd with a nine-over, 225.
Beginning Saturday, the Hurricanes are set to square off against another strong tournament field including a pair of teams listed in the top 25 on golfstat.com and six in the top 50. The full list includes, No. 34 Campbell, No. 20 Clemson, No. 55 College of Charleston, Daytona State College, No. 52 East Carolina, No. 92 FIU, No. 57 NC State, No. 70 Ohio State, No. 42 Penn State, No. 40 Tennessee, No. 50 UCF and tournament host and eighth-ranked Florida.
Following the conclusion of the Florida Gator Invitational Miami will take a 22 day hiatus from tournament play before competing in The Bruzzy Invitational in Argyle, Texas, April 1-2.
