Templeton and Lukianova Earn VB All-ACC Honors
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami redshirt senior setter Haley Templeton garnered her fourth ACC honor after being named to the All-ACC First Team, while outside hitter Elizaveta Lukianova was selected to the Second Team, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Templeton became just the second player in program history to be a four-time All-ACC honoree, along Lane Carico, who did so from 2008-11. The Alpharetta, Ga., native garnered her second First Team recognition after wrapping up her illustrious career with the Hurricanes last weekend. Templeton logged 961 assists, 156 digs, 86 kills and finished with a team-leading 37 aces in her final season with Miami.
The First Team honoree finished her career with a season-high 59 assists in her final match Friday at Duke. Templeton is on the First Team for the second year in a row after making the Second Team in 2014 and 2015. Along with her postseason recognition, Templeton is also a four-time All-ACC Preseason honoree.
Templeton finished with the third-most assists in Miami history with 4,632, just 341 shy of Jill Robinson in second place.
“We are so happy for Haley because she is so deserving of this award,” head coach Jose “Keno” Gandara said. “She is such a good player and has been such a big part of our program every year for the past five seasons. It’s nice to see her get recognized for her work.”
Lukianova earned her first conference award on Monday after registering a career-high and team-leading 304 kills and 57 blocks. The redshirt sophomore finished with the Canes’ second best attack percentage (.303) and emerged as one of the most dominant threats on offense.
“It’s nice to see Liza get recognized for her work this season,” Gandara said. ” She carried a big offensive load for us this year as a sophomore. We believe she is one of the elite players in the conference and it’s nice to see her name on the list.”
In his six seasons at the helm, Gandara has produced eight First Team selections, seven Second Team honorees, two ACC Players of the Year and one Freshman Player of the Year.
