Miami Continues Road Stint Against Wake and UNC

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –  The University of Miami volleyball team looks to earn its 10th conference win of the season at 6:30 p.m. Friday when it travels to Winston-Salem, N.C., to face the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (8-18, 3-11 ACC) at Reynolds Gymnasium.

The Wake Forest match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra here, while live stats are available here.

Miami (13-8, 9-5 ACC) is tied with Notre Dame for fifth in the ACC standings with four matches left in the regular season and heads to Winston-Salem with the Demon Deacons (8-18, 3-11 ACC) holding a six-match losing streak. The Canes will go for their second win of the season against the Deacons after sweeping them at home in September.

The Canes continue to lead the ACC with 1.51 aces per set with redshirt senior setter Haley Templeton pacing Miami with 30, one shy from a career high she set in 2015 and 2017. Ten different Canes have recorded an ace this season, including four freshmen – Chloe Brown (19), Emily Damon (18), Priscilla Hernandez (6) and Taylor Burrell (1).

Bridget Wallenberger has been dominant on defense for the Canes with 91 total blocks, while recording a season high eight blocks against then-No. 24 Louisville. Wallenberger’s 1.21 blocks per set ranks eighth in the conference.

Outside hitters Kolby Bird and Elizaveta Lukianova lead the Canes with 243 kills each. Bird extended her 10 or more kills-streak to 11 matches after last weekend.

Wake Forest setter Madeline Holt sits seventh in the ACC with 9.27 assists per set, totaling 918 this season. The Deacons rank 10th in the ACC in service aces recording 1.13 aces per set entering Friday’s match.

Following Friday’s match, the Canes travel to Chapel Hill on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match against North Carolina at Carmichael Arena. Miami defeated the Tar Heels 3-1, at home in October. UNC (6-17, 2-12 ACC) hosts the Canes in its lone match of the weekend and is currently 15th in the conference.
