This week we get to know Ryley Howard, the freshman cross country standout, from Virginia and what drew her to the University of Miami.

Q&A:
Q: What about Miami stood out to you during the recruiting process?
A: What stood out to me the most were the athletic facilities and resources that UM has for student-athletes.
Q: What is the main reason you chose to attend Miami?
A: The main reason I chose to attend Miami was because I really liked the cognate system. I also really wanted to run for UM.
Q: What’s is your favorite thing about Miami?
A: My favorite thing is the location and the campus itself.
Q: When you were practicing with the team, what were some of the differences you noticed compared to high school practice?
A: The first thing I noticed was how independent the practices were. You have to take your workout into your own hands and take care of anything else you need before or after.
Q: What has been the biggest adjustment in terms of training and in terms of campus/social life?
A: In terms of training, the biggest adjustment has been having to dedicate more time to practice. In terms of campus life, the biggest adjustment is not having a kitchen because I love cooking.
Q: If you were not running cross country/track for the U, what sport would you play?
A: I would be playing soccer for sure.
Q: What is your favorite food? What food do you not like at all?
A: My favorite food is definitely oatmeal, I could have it for every meal, every day. I don’t like anything that has meat.
Q: What is your all-time favorite movie? TV show?
A: My favorite movie is Interstellar. Favorite TV show is Psych.
Q: What was your most embarrassing “freshman” moment?
A: My most embarrassing freshman moment was wearing jeans out to a team dinner when everyone was wearing sweats. I clearly didn’t get the memo.
Q: What do you think of your classes so far?
A: They aren’t crazy hard. I just have to spend a lot more time on work outside of class than I did in high school.
