Cross Country Concludes ACC Championships

JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass. –  Sophomore Dylan Sykes and senior Anne den Otter led the Miami Hurricanes at the 2018 ACC Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park. 
 
The Canes had 12 student-athletes compete at Friday’s meet, with six men entered in the 8K and six women in the 6K. 
 
For the sixth time in 2018, Sykes was the Hurricanes top finisher with a time of 26:13.8, his Friday’s time was his second-best finish of the season. Matthew Wiefels also turned in his second fastest 8K time this season (27:23), and was the second Cane to cross the finish line. 
 
Freshmen James Hasell and Sam Flesichman followed and produced season highs of 27:56.7 and 27:59.6, respectively. 
 
Senior Sean Hagert raced for the first time this season for the Canes and finished with a time of 29:57.1. Sophomore Taj Bland rounded out the competition for the men running a season-best 8K time of 30:05.4. 
 
On the women’s side, den Otter led the Canes in the team’s first 6K event of the season, finishing with a team-best time of 22:53. Abby Kettle finished closely behind the senior with her time of 23:25. 
 
Olivia Raymond ran a solid race, finishing just before the 24-minute mark with a time of 23:57.9. Emma Langlois, Simone Vreeland and newcomer Lauren Schiffenhaus closed out the event for the Canes. 
 
Notre Dame claimed the men’s title edging the defending champions Syracuse by four points, while NC claimed their fourth consecutive women’s title. 
 
Miami will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., in two week to compete at the NCAA Regional Championships.
