Rowing Set for Head of the Indian Creek

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s rowing team opens competition for the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule on Saturday at the Head of the Indian Creek.

The Hurricanes will race on their home course in the regatta hosted by the Miami Beach Rowing Club. The annual Head of the Indian Creek is a 4,000-meter against the clock on the scenic Indian Creek in the heart of Miami Beach.

“It’s always exciting for our athletes to go to the start line for the first time of the season,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “The women on this team have been focused and determined with their training and I know they are excited to get a chance to race. I expect this will be a good measuring stick of how we have developed since the first day of practice and a good point of focus as we look ahead to the next five weeks of training.”

Miami will have seven boats in action with three varsity eights and four varsity fours. The varsity eights race is set to begin at 11:15 a.m., while the varsity fours race will begin at 12:45 p.m.

The spring session of racing begins with a two-day trip to Oak Ridge, Tenn., where Miami heads to the Cardinal Invitational on March 16-17. For a complete look at Miami’s schedule, click here.
