Canes Bounce Back with Strong Team Performance

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team used a strong second day performance to move up the leaderboard at the Schooner Fall Classic.
 
The Hurricanes moved up five spots and are currently tied for sixth place after they fired a Saturday score of nine-under-par 275 at the par 71, 6,063-yard Belmar Golf Club.
 
“[Associate head coach] John Koskinen and I are very excited about their comeback today. We know they have it in them, it’s just a matter of putting it all together at the right time,” head coach Patti Rizzo said. “Hopefully, they’ll do the same tomorrow. I know the abilities are there. It’s just a matter of making it happen!”

Sophomore Kristyna Frydlova carded a career-low five-under 66 to lead the charge for the Hurricanes’ bounce-back performance. The Prague, Czech Republic, native registered a team-high eight birdies on Saturday, giving her a two-day total of 11 birdies. Overall, Frydlova is tied-for-13th shooting with an overall score of four-under 138.
 
Senior Dewi Weber and graduate student Claudia De Antonio both registered strong performances on Saturday, recording four birdies apiece. Weber finished the afternoon with a three-under 68, while De Antonio scored 69.
 
Junior’s Macarena Aguilera and Renate Grimstad rounded out the Hurricanes’ lineup, as they both scored one-over-par.
 
Miami begins Round 3 competition tomorrow at 9:20 a.m. ET and will tee off on hole No. 1.
 
Live scoring for the classic will be available HERE. Coverage of the tournament will be streamed live on FOX Sports Oklahoma and FOX College Sports Central from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, while Sunday the 18th hole will be streamed live on SoonerSports.TV.
