Six Miami Rowers Named All-ACC Academic
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Six members of the University of Miami rowing team were named to the 2018 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced Thursday by the conference office.
Alexa Aguilar, Rebecca Camplin, Kathleen Hanson, Emily Kean, Taegan Lynch and Jane Moore were among the 61 student-athletes named to the 2018 All-ACC Academic Team that was selected from a pool of 286 nominees, the most in league history. The nine ACC schools that sponsor Rowing averaged 31.7 nominees each.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Aguilar earned her second All-ACC Academic honor. A senior, she earned her degree in creative advertising to wrap up a solid four-year career with the Canes. In 2018, Aguilar was a member of the Varsity Eight for the majority of the season and helped the Hurricanes win the Petite Final at the ACC Championships. Aguilar, an eight-time Book Buster, has earned both Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List seven times, as well as Provost’s Honor Roll once. She is also a two-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete, receiving the distinction each of the last two seasons.
Camplin picked up the first All-ACC Academic award of her career after an impressive freshman campaign that ended with helping Miami’s Varsity Eight win the Petite Final at the ACC Championships. She was a member of the Varsity Eight all season, representing the Canes at the Knecht Cup, Sunshine State Invitational and Cardinal Invitational. A marine affairs major, she made the Dean’s List once and was on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and Book Buster Club twice each in her first collegiate year.
Hanson received her first All-ACC Academic honor to add to a growing list of awards. The freshman was named CRCA all-conference and being selected to the All-ACC Second Team following the 2018 ACC Rowing Championships. A Melbourne, Australia native, she helped Miami’s Varsity Eight win the Petite Final at the 2018 ACC Rowing Championships. In addition to the conference regatta, Hanson was a member of the Varsity Eight at the Longhorn Invitational after rowing on Miami’s 2V8+ at the Knecht Cup and Sunshine State Invitational, as well as on the 2V4+ in head-to-head racing against UCF and Wisconsin and at the Cardinal Invitational. A finance/business technology major, Hanson made the Dean’s List and the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll once each and Book Buster Club twice in her first year at Miami.
Kean is the third freshman to earn All-ACC Academic for the Hurricanes in 2018. She was a member of Miami’s Varsity Eight that won the Petite Final at the ACC Championships. She was a member of the Varsity Eight all season, representing the Canes at the Longhorn Invitational, Knecht Cup, Sunshine State Invitational and Cardinal Invitational. A public health major, she made the Provost’s Honor Roll once and was a two-time member of the Dean’s List, Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and Book Buster Club.
Lynch earned her third All-ACC Academic selection, matching three CRCA National Scholar-Athlete honor. She is the sixth Hurricane to earn three All-ACC Academic honors, joining Sarah Aschebrock, Breanna Hayton, Katalin Horvath, Caitlin Lowe and Sarah Medland. A team captain, Lynch helped Miami’s Varsity Eight win the Petite Final at the ACC Championships and led the Canes’ top varsity boat all season. The senior received her bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology and closed out her career as an eight-time Book Buster and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll selection, while making the Dean’s List five times and Provost’s Honor Roll and President’s Honor Roll once each.
Moore received her first All-ACC Academic honor in the same year she earned her first National Scholar-Athlete recognition. A senior from Darien, Conn., Moore was a four-year member of Miami’s Varsity Eight. An injury cut her senior season short, but Moore represented the Canes at three ACC Rowing Championships and was a key member of the Varsity Eight that won the Petite Final at the conference regatta in 2016 and 2017. Moore earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and closed out her career as an eight-time Book Buster and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll recipient, while earning Dean’s List four times and Provost’s Honor Roll three times.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
