Blagg Takes Silver Medal at Commonwealth Games
GOLD COAST, Australia – University of Miami redshirt freshman Alicia Blagg continued her outstanding season by capturing a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games while representing her native England at the international competition.
Blagg teamed with Katherine Torrance to take second in the synchronized 3-meter springboard. Blagg and Torrance had only begun competing together in January and trained for two weeks before capturing a medal in the event.
In her first season of competition with the Hurricanes, Blagg captured a gold medal at the 2018 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships in the 3-meter springboard in her first trip to the conference championships.
“We were like, ‘we’ll just wing it, throw the dice and see what happens’ and it went pretty well,” Blagg told BBC.
Blagg nearly defended her synchro title, having captured the gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland with Rebecca Gallantree, who has since retired from competition.
“But I’m pleased. I know I could have dived better with my fourth dive I dropped but she [Torrance] dived incredibly and she really held her own. I’m really proud of her,” Blagg told the Evening Guardian.
