Canes Rowing Wraps Racing Against UCF and Wisconsin
SARASOTA, Fla. — The University of Miami rowing team wrapped up competition against UCF and Wisconsin Saturday.
The Hurricanes, Knights and Badgers scrimmaged in an exhibition on Friday afternoon, competing in 250m sprint pieces, and had 2000m racing on Saturday morning in Sarasota, Fla.
It was a solid weekend of racing from a team perspective,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “We can see a clear improvement in boats from earlier in the season, and big picture, a clear improvement from a year ago. Each boat still has critical aspects of their racing that need to be improved, but we are making progress. We are looking forward to taking steps forward in next week’s practices and racing again at the Sunshine State Invite. I’d also like to thank Wisconsin for organizing the racing this weekend.”
Miami had five boats in action this weekend. The First Varsity 8 opened competition, finishing third behind Wisconsin and UCF with a time of 7:09.34.
The Second Varsity 8 was the first of four Miami boats to finish second on Saturday, finishing only behind Wisconsin with a time of 7:19.48. Miami’s First Varsity 4 also finished second to the Badgers with a time of 8:34.5, while the Second Varsity 4 finish second to Wisconsin with a time of 8:50.16.
Miami’s Third Varsity 8 came in second to UCF in a head-to-head race, posting a time of 8:34.77.
The Hurricanes raced in Sarasota, Fla., for the first of two consecutive weekends, as Miami will compete at the Sunshine State Invite on April 6-7. For a complete look at Miami’s schedule, click here.
