Grossman Sets School Record at Florida Relays
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field program opened competition at the 2018 Pepsi Florida Relays Thursday.
The Hurricanes were one of 100 teams in the field at the annual event held at the University of Florida. Several Canes were in action Thursday, competing in a field that included 14 ranked teams as Percy Beard Track.
The Hurricanes saved their best performance for the final event of the opening day of competition, as Sean Grossman finished sixth in the men’s 5000m. The senior posted a personal-best time of 14:19.45 that smashed his own school record in the event by 18 seconds.
Fellow senior Nathan Kuck climbed into to second place on Miami’s all-time top 5 in the men’s 5000m, finishing 13th overall with a personal-best time of 14:35.70 that also broke Grossman’s previous UM record time. Adam George finished 30th with a personal-best time of 15:06.16, while Dylan Sykes also had a personal-best in the event (16:38.89).
Isabella Gentil was the first Hurricane to compete at Florida Relays, running a personal-best time of 25.30 seconds in the women’s open 200m.
Myles Valentine led the Canes in the men’s open 200m with a time of 21.54 seconds, while Isaiah Taylor ran a personal-best time of 21.54 seconds in the same event.
Luca Bhalla ran in the men’s open 400m, while Ibrahim Dodo was in the men’s open 400m hurdles.
Andreas Christodoulou was the only Cane in action in the field events Thursday, posting a mark of 58.20m in the men’s college javelin.
Friday’s competition begins at noon with the women’s hammer and women’s discus. The final day of competition opens at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the men’s discus invite.

Following this weekend’s action, the Hurricanes will return home for consecutive meets at Cobb Stadium. Miami will host the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 6-7 and the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational on April 14.
