Trey McKinney Jones Signs with Indiana Pacers
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Former Miami standout guard Trey McKinney Jones signed a 10-day contract with the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. The Pacers return to action on Friday following the All-Star Break, playing host to the Atlanta Hawks. This marks McKinney Jones’ first time on an active NBA roster.
McKinney Jones is the fourth former Hurricane player to spend time on an NBA roster this season, joining Shane Larkin of the Boston Celtics, Sheldon Mac (formerly McClellan) of the Washington Wizards and Davon Reed of the Phoenix Suns.
The 6-5, 220-pound guard was in the Pacers’ training camp before joining the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Pacers’ G League affiliate. He played in 26 games for the Mad Ants, averaging 11.4 points per game.
McKinney Jones was a captain on Miami’s 2013 ACC Championship team, playing in all 36 games as the Hurricanes reached the Sweet 16. He averaged 9.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting 39.3 percent from 3-point range. He was named to the 2013 ACC All-Tournament Second Team as the Hurricanes won their first ACC Tournament championship.
He finished sixth in career 3-point percentage at Miami, hitting on 38.5 percent of his attempts. In 69 career games over two seasons from 2011-13, McKinney Jones averaged 8.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists in 27.3 minutes. He hit 43.6 percent (193-of-443) of his shots from the field, 38.5 percent (99-of-257) from 3-point range and 81.5 percent (75-of-92) at the free-throw line.
