Miami Women’s Golf Leads the UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team fired a team total of three-under-par (285) on Monday to jump two spots and take over the tournament lead after two rounds at the UCF Challenge.
 
As a team, Miami owns a two-day total of 580 (295-285) and holds a four-stroke advantage over second-place Wisconsin. Miami highlighted the day with 20 birdies as a team.
 
Junior Dewi Weber led the way for Miami in round two, as she tallied a team-best total of 66.
 
Weber’s second-round 66 was a seven-stroke improvement from her opening round score of 73 and propelled her 11 spots up the leaderboard where she is now tied for the tournament lead with UCF’s Kaeli Jones as both own a two-day total of 139.
 
Weber finished the day with seven birdies, 10 pars and only one bogey. Weber has now shot 70-or-less 22 times throughout her collegiate career.
 
Sophomore Renate Grimstad also remains in contention for the individual crown after she shot a second-round total of 72. After two rounds, Grimstad sits just three strokes off the tournament lead. The Norway native finished the day with three birdies and 12 pars.
 
Freshman Kristyna Frydlova also made a big jump during the second round, as she moved nine spots up the leaderboard after she posted a score of one-over-par 73. Frydlova is currently tied for 25th with a two-day total of 149.
 
Round two competition also saw a three-stroke improvement for sophomore Macarena Aguilera, as she finished the day with a second-day score of 74. Aguilera is tied for 43rd with a two-round score of 151.
 
Freshman Roos Haarman rounded out Miami’s top five with a day two score of 78. She is currently tied for 65th place after two rounds (154).
 
Freshman Serena Hou, who is competing as an individual, also turned in a strong second round performance, as she posted a score of even par, improving 13 strokes from her day one total. Hou’s second-round score of 72 was the best single round of her collegiate career.

This year’s event will take place at the Par 72, 6,349-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club. Miami is in search of its second straight title at the UCF Challenge.
