Lykes Named ACC Rookie of Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami freshman guard Chris Lykes was named the ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference office. This marks Lykes’ first league honor, and it is the second time this season that a Miami freshman has earned the distinction. Lonnie Walker IV earned ACC Rookie of the Week laurels on Dec. 11.
 
A native of Mitchellville, Maryland, Lykes averaged 13.0 points and 3.5 assists in ACC outings against Georgia Tech and then-No. 24 Florida State last week.
 
Lykes went 6-for-10 from the field and scored a career-high 18 points in a career-best 25 minutes in an 80-74 win over Florida State on Sunday. That followed his career-best five assists and eight points in a Wednesday night road game at Georgia Tech.
 
Lykes is averaging 7.5 points and 1.5 assists while coming off the bench in all 15 Miami games this season. He is shooting 39.7 percent (23-for-58) from 3-point range. He is averaging 12.0 points per game in ACC play – third on the team.
 
Miami travels to No. 19/17 Clemson for a 3 p.m. game Saturday (Jan. 13) before coming home the following Monday to play No. 7/6 Duke in a 7 p.m. game at the Watsco Center.
