Cross Country Heads to USF Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country program is ready for its final test before the ACC Cross Country Championships, competing at the USF Invitational on Friday.

The Hurricanes will be one of 16 schools set to race on the course at The Claw golf course on the USF campus. Ten Canes are entered in the women’s 5K, set to begin at 5 p.m., while Miami has seven entries in the men’s 8K at 5:45 p.m.

“With ACC around the corner, this last meet will provide us with the chance to work on some things in a competitive race situation,” Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said. “We have shown grown as individuals each week; we have to take the next step this Friday as a team.”

Maryam Jawid and Anne den Otter will look to continue leading Miami’s women’s team this weekend. Jawid was the Canes’ top finisher at the Greater Louisville Classic two weeks ago with a time of 18:12.36, while den Otter crossed the finish line 22 seconds later.

On the men’s side, seniors Nathan Kuck and Sean Grossman will pace the Hurricanes’ pack. Kuck has been Miami’s top male finisher in all three races this season, running a personal-best time of 24:49.97 at the Greater Louisville Classic that ranks fourth all-time in the 8K UM history. Grossman also had a solid race at Louisville, finishing with a time of 25:20.34.
