Canes Seek to Continue Momentum at Bedford Cup

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will be one of the three UM teams to compete in Tallahassee Fla., this week, when it participates in the annual Bedford Cup.

The Hurricanes enjoyed a successful start to the season, with every competitor earning at least one victory last week, contributing to Miami’s two titles at the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas. Freshman Adria Soriano won the singles title in his draw, while his classmate Tatsuki Shimamoto and senior Nile Clark teamed up for the doubles title.

At the same time, in Tulsa, Okla., senior Christian Langmo started the season 4-0 to go through the pre-qualification stage of the ITA Men’s All-American Championships and was only two wins away from the main draw of the prestigious competition. In the same event, freshman Bojan Jankulovski debuted as a Hurricane Sunday with a win against No. 92 Josef Dodridge from Wisconsin.

The Bedford Cup, an event which includes 12 Florida teams – Miami, Florida State, North Florida, Florida, FGCU, Stetson, UCF, FIU, Bethune Cookman and Florida A&M – will be hosted by the Seminoles this year. Singles and doubles competition will begin Thursday, Oct. 5, and will continue for four days. Draws will be announced later on Wednesday.

Next week, Miami will participate in the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Presented by Oracle in Atlanta, hosted by Atlantic Coast Conference rival Georgia Tech.
