Pair of Canes Wrapping Up Long Course Season
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A pair of standout swimmers will be representing the University of Miami and finishing their long course seasons this coming week at major international competitions.
Manon Viguier will represent France at the World University Games in Taipei, Taiwan, while Roxanne Yu will be swimming at the Southeast Asian Games, representing her native Phillipines.
One of Miami’s top contributors in her freshman season with the Hurricanes, Viguier figures to play an even bigger role for Miami in 2017-18.
“It has been great to see Manon’s hard work elevate her performance and give her an opportunity to play a role on the French National Team,” head swimming coach Andy Kershaw. “This is experience is great for her development as a person and as a swimmer. I have no doubt she will represent The U with great dignity and pride.”
Another one of Miami’s most talented swimmers, Yu will see her hard work pay off in her events inside the National Aquatic Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this week.
“Roxanne has worked relentlessly to put herself in position to have great success at the SEA Games,” Kershaw said. “After a long stretch of hard training I am excited to see her light it up for the Philippines. She cares deeply about her swimming and who she represents, and she is a great model for her teammates.”
Yu will be competing in the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke, while Viguier is looking to build off her momentum from late May, when she finished fourth in the French World Championships in the 200 freestyle.
“These are the types of opportunities our program has been building toward,” Kershaw said. “Every member of our team has played a role in helping these two be selected to their national teams. Manon and Rox will bring back valuable experience to their Hurricane family which will add to our journey and lead to even greater team accomplishments in the future.
“The Canes have always played a part on the international stage, and it is great to have these two continue that.”
