Q&A
Q: What has your time at Miami been like so far?
A: My time at Miami has been wonderful. It has been great meeting the athletes of each sport and getting to know everyone. The weather has been beautiful and walking to class every day under palm trees is a nice change from old high school hallways.
Q: What has been your favorite part of being a Hurricane?
A: My favorite part of being a Hurricane is being amongst so many driven people, athletes or not, here at The U. At Miami, only excellence is accepted, so surrounding myself with great people has been motivating, fun, and exciting.
Q: Has anyone taken you under their wing, shown you around and helped with your transition to college? If so, who, and how have they helped you adjust?
A: The entire volleyball team has really taken me under their wing. Specifically, Coach Jill [Hadder], our trainer Simona [Latino], Hannah [Sorensen], Carly [Davey], Sakile [Simmons], Kolby [Bird], Brooke [McDermott], and Sara [Duque] have helped in my transition by offering rides, walking me to classes/events, helping me with questions I have about UM, and showing a genuine warmth in welcoming me to The U. My faculty advisor, Marilyn Gonzalez, has also been helpful in guiding my course selection.
Q: What has been the biggest adjustment for you since you arrived?
A: Living in the dorm and having a roommate.
Q: Are there any classes you are taking so far that you like?
A: This summer I am taking “Public Speaking” and “The Geological Influences on Society”. I like both of these classes. Being taught in a fun, intimate classroom setting with a great professor, Public Speaking will better my speaking skills. Likewise, the geology STEM class is interesting and led by an awesome professor.
Q: What made you choose your major?
A: I have always dreamed of being in front of the camera and on TV. Being a Broadcast Journalism major prepares me to pursue my dream of becoming an ESPN anchor, immersed in the world of athletics, or a talk show host.
Q: What are you most excited for about being in college?
A: I am excited about the many open doors at Miami. The School of Communications offers numerous opportunities to be in front of the camera and on the radio, even as a freshman. And, I am thrilled to fulfill a goal of competing in the ACC on a hard-working, talented, and determined volleyball team that has a tradition and expectation of success.
