Volleyball Announces 2017 Schedule
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball program will host 10 ACC home matches and the UM/FIU Invitational as part of its 2017 regular season schedule.
“We are excited about the upcoming season,” Miami head coach Jose “Keno” Gandara said. “We have a competitive schedule that will present good challenges in non-conference and ACC play.”
Miami will open the season at the Southern Miss Invitational on Aug. 25-26, the first of four non-conference tournaments on the 2017 Canes schedule. The Canes will open the season on August 25 at 1 p.m., against Little Rock, before playing at Southern Miss at 8 p.m., that night. Miami will wrap up the opening weekend with a match against Nicholls State on Aug. 26 at 11 a.m.
The Canes are back on the road in Week 2, traveling to Fort Myers, Fla., for the FGCU Homewood Suites Classic. Miami opens the tournament with a 4:30 p.m., match against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 1, before a double header on Sept. 2 that features matches against UCF (1:30 p.m.) and Florida Gulf Coast (7 p.m.).
The following week will see Miami travel to Philadelphia for a tournament at Temple University. Miami opens the weekend with a match against Delaware at 3:30 p.m., on Sept. 8 and faces the host Owls at 2 p.m., on Sept. 9.
After three weekends on the road, the Hurricanes will make their 2017 home debut the weekend of Sept. 15-16 at the UM-FIU Invitational. Miami’s first home match of the year will be against James Madison on Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. The Canes face Auburn at 10:30 a.m., on Sept. 16 and finish the weekend with a 6 p.m., match against South Alabama.
Following the final nonconference weekend, the Hurricanes head into an ACC slate that features 20 matches, 10 home and 10 away. Miami opens ACC play on Friday, Sept. 22, when they host Virginia Tech at 7 p.m., in Coral Gables. Two days later, the Canes welcome Virginia to the Knight Complex at 1 p.m.
The Canes close our September and open October with their first ACC road trip of the year, traveling to Notre Dame (Sept. 29) and Louisville (Oct. 1). Miami travels to in-state rival Florida State on Oct. 4 before returning home for a match against Pittsburgh on Oct. 8. The Canes then hit the road again for matches at Duke (Oct. 13) and Wake Forest (Oct. 15).
After playing four of five matches away from Coral Gables, the Canes open a five-match homestand on Oct. 20 against Louisville. Miami also welcomes Notre Dame (Oct. 22), NC State (Oct. 27) and North Carolina (Oct 29) before opening the month of November with a home match against the rival Florida State Seminoles (Nov. 1).
Miami travels to Pittsburgh for a Nov. 3 match against the Panthers before returning home for the final two home matches of 2017. The Canes welcome Boston College on Nov. 9, while Syracuse will face Miami on Nov. 12 to wrap up Senior Weekend.
The Hurricanes will play their final four regular season matches away from their home court, traveling to Virginia (Nov. 17), Virginia Tech (Nov. 19), Georgia Tech (Nov. 22) and Clemson (Nov. 24).
Miami will play every team in the ACC at least once, while Florida State, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Virginia Tech are scheduled for two matches against Miami.
