Motley Joins Thomas on Luleå Basket
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Just as her classmate Jessica Thomas did earlier this month, outgoing University of Miami women’s basketball standout Adrienne Motley has signed with Luleå Basket in Sweden.
A member of the Basketligan dam, Sweden’s premier professional league, Luleå Basket will feature a pair of Hurricanes on its roster next season. Motley, selected by the Indiana Fever with No. 32 pick in the WNBA Draft, and Thomas were Miami co-captains the past two years.
“I’m excited about signing and starting my pro career with Luleå. They have a history of winning and I am very certain they will help enhance my game,” Motley said. “I couldn’t be more confident in my decision and I have heard nothing but great things about the organization. I’m just excited to start and get to work.”
One of 20 players during head coach Katie Meier’s 12-year tenure at Miami to sign a professional contract, Motley was a three-time All-ACC pick, earning first team accolades in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
A 2015-16 WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, the 5-foot-9-inch guard concluded her illustrious career in the top 10 of nine statistical categories, including second in games started (126) and sixth in scoring (1,844).
Over her final three seasons as a Hurricane, Motley scored in double figures in 79 of 98 outings. She finished her career averaging 14.3 points per game and was named to a multitude of award watch lists.
