@HurricanesGolf Jumps Up Two Spots at the NCAA Regional

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The No. 16-ranked University of Miami women’s golf team jumped two spots in the standings Tuesday afternoon and sits in eighth place, following a second-round score of 288 at the 2017 NCAA Regional Championship.

The Hurricanes own a two-day total of 591 and sit just four shots out of sixth place, heading into the final round. The top six teams advance to the national tournament in Sugar Grove, Ill. (May 19-24).

The University of New Mexico is serving as the tournament host for the three-day event, which is being held at The Championship Course (par 72, 6,637 yards).

Miami opened Round 2 on the back nine and tallied eight birdies. The Hurricanes were even better on the final nine holes, as they recorded nine birdies. Miami’s second round total was 15 strokes better than its opening day total of 303.

Sophomore Dewi Weber carded a Round 2 score of three-under-par, 69, which served as an eight-stroke improvement from her opening day tally of 77.

Weber jumped up 29 spots in the individual standings and is currently tied for 20th. The Netherlands native opened the day on a high note, as she carded birdies on holes No. 11, No. 12 and No. 14. In addition, Weber posted birdies on holes No. 2 and No. 7, but also recorded a pair of bogeys on the final nine holes.

Weber’s second round 69 marked the sixth time this year and the 12th time in her career she has shot under 70.

Senior Delfina Acosta also had a big improvement during Round 2, as she shot one-under-par, 71, to jump up 14 spots in the individual standings. Acosta’s second-day score is a five-stroke improvement from her opening round 76. She is currently tied for 27th.

Freshmen Macarena Aguilera and Filippa Moork rounded out the Hurricanes’ lineup, as they both posted scores of 76. After two rounds of play, Aguilera and Moork are tied for 60th (153).

Stanford leads all team scores with a two-round tally of 573. Stanford’s Albane Valenzuela leads all individuals with a two-day score of 140.

Final round competition begins tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. EST.
