Canes Sign Three During Signing Period
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team has added three new student-athletes to the 2017-18 roster, as announced Monday by head coach Aljosa Piric.
“I am very excited about our incoming class of freshmen,” Piric said. “Our No. 1 priority this year was to look for guys who love tennis, have a great character and work ethic, and who have an aim to become the very best student-athletes and people they can be. Each one of these guys possesses the values we were looking for, and we are thrilled to welcome them into our Miami Hurricanes family. I am sure that they will be outstanding ambassadors of our program, and I am sure that they will do their very best to accomplish some special things individually, but more importantly, for our team and for the University of Miami.”
According to tennisrecruiting.net, the Canes’ 2017-18 incoming class is ranked No. 11 in the country.
Bojan Jankulovski
A native of Skopje, Macedonia, Bojan Jankulovski is a left-hander who has peaked at No. 53 in the ITF junior world rankings. The ATP World Tour has also ranked him as high as No. 1,421 in singles.
In 2016, Jankulovski competed in the Roland Garros Junior French Championships.
In addition, he was nominated as a member of the Macedonia, F.Y.R. Davis Cup team three times in 2014 and 2015, earning a pair of doubles victories. Against Albania’s Rei Pelushi and Genajd Shypheja, Jankulovski teamed up with Tomislav Jotovski to earn the, 6-0, 6-2, victory. A year later, he teamed up with Gorazd Srbljak to take down Armenia’s Ashot Gevorgyan and Sedrak Khachatryan, 6-4, 6-2.
Jankulovski, also finished as a quarterfinalist of the European Championship for boys 16 and under, while ranking as high as No. 2 in Europe for boys 16 and under.
Tatsuki Shimamoto
Tatsuki Shimamoto, a native of Japan, has reached as high as No. 363 in the ITF junior world rankings.
In July of 2016, Shimamoto took down four competitors before defeating George Davis of Great Britain in the finals of the ITF junior event, Copa Horizontes De La Amistad in Cuba.
In addition, Shimamoto earned four victories in the ITF junior event, VIII Copa Mangu in Dominican Republic, to reach the semifinals of the main draw.
Adria Soriano-Barrera
A native of Spain, Adria Soriano-Barrera is a right-hander who is currently ranked No. 1,761 by the ATP World Tour in singles. He is also ranked in the top-10 of Spain’s 18 and under rankings.
Soriano most notably finished as the runner up at the Catalonian Junior Championship.
Jankulovski, Soriano-Barrera and Shimamoto are all set to join the Miami program for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
