@CanesRowing Heads to Knecht Cup
MERCER COUNTY, N.J. — The University of Miami rowing team is back in action this weekend at the Knecht Cup.
The Hurricanes have four boats scheduled to compete over the two-day regatta on Mercer Lake in West Windsor Township, N.J. Miami will look to continue to build off previous race experience as it prepares for the ACC Rowing Championships in May.
“The team is once again looking forward to an exciting weekend of racing,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “The format will have them racing heats, semis, and finals over the course of the weekend against excellent competition. The athletes have been working hard in practice and are looking to test their speed one race at a time.”
The women’s varsity four is the first boat in the water for Miami, racing out of Lane 4 in Heat 2 at 7:58 a.m. The Hurricanes will face off against Holy Cross, Temple, Delaware, Colgate and Marist, with the top four in each heat plus the next five fastest times advancing to the semi-final.
Miami’s varsity eight is scheduled to race out of Lane 6 in Heat 5, beginning at 10:53 a.m. The Canes will race against Buffalo, Philadelphia, Army, George Mason and UMass, with the top three in each heat plus the next 6 fastest times moving on to the semi-final.
The Canes’ 2V8+ will battle Fairfield, SMU, Villanova, Temple and UMass in Heat 2 of its event, beginning at 11:28 a.m. The top four boats in each heat plus the next five fastest times will advance to the semi-final.
Miami’s novice eight is the final Hurricane boat scheduled to race on Saturday, running out of Lane 2 in Heat 3 beginning at 12:17 a.m. The Hurricanes will compete against Fordham, Bucknell, MIT’s lightweight boat, Army and Temple. The top three boats in each heat plus the next three fastest times will move on to the semi-final.
Following this weekend’s action at the Knecht Cup, the Canes will head to Orlando, Fla., to race against UCF in their final regatta before the ACC Rowing Championship. For a complete look at Miami’s schedule, click here.
