@CanesRowing Earns Win at Sunshine State Invitational
SARASOTA, Fla. — The University of Miami rowing team earned a victory on the opening day of competition at the Sunshine State Invitational.
The Hurricanes had five boats in action in the two-day regatta at Nathan Benderson Park, which will host the 2018 NCAA Rowing Championship. The field featured four Florida squads in Miami, UCF, Jacksonville and Stetson. Alabama, Kansas State, North Carolina and Tulsa also lined up on the water.
“We saw some great racing today from some of our boats,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. The 2V took the day, winning their race in an incredibly close three-boat race all the way down the course. I’m extremely proud of how they raced. The 1V and novice 8 also had strong races and will look to improve tomorrow.”
Miami’s 2V8+ was the top finisher of the five Hurricane boats in action, earning a victory in their first race of the weekend with a time of 6:51.5. The Canes’ 2V8+ finished ahead of Kansas State, UCF, North Carolina, Alabama, Jacksonville, Stetson and Tulsa.
The Hurricanes’ varsity 8 also has a solid showing in its first race of the weekend, finishing fourth with a time of 6:41.2. Miami just missed the top three in its event on Friday, finishing behind UCF, Tulsa and Alabama.
