Walker Shows Athleticism in McDonald’s All-American Game

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami men’s basketball signee Lonnie Walker IV showed off his athleticism at the McDonald’s All-American game Monday night at the United Center in Chicago.

“I want to show my all-around game, offensively and defensively. I want to show my stroke, show my jumpshot and also show my athleticism,” Walker said during a halftime interview. “I want to show everyone that I can play all three levels – at the one, two or three positions. You name it, I can do it.”

Walker threw down a monster dunk and hit a 3-pointer on his way to seven points, while also adding two assists, a block and a steal to his stat line.

“When you look at Lonnie Walker, the sky is the limit for him,” said ESPN broadcaster Cory Alexander. “He has tremendous athleticism and he’s a guy who is going to flourish in a system with Jim Larrañaga at Miami.”

Walker tallied all seven of his points in the first half of the game. He was 3-of-6 on shots from the field, and was 1-of-3 from long range.

“In the first half I was just trying to get in a groove for my game, feel the game, feel the floor and see where my teammates are,” Walker said during a halftime interview. “My first shot was a little off, but with my second shot I started feeling it and getting a feel for the game. My nervousness went away. I am just happy to play here.”

Walker is expected to arrive on the UM campus in time for the Summer B session of classes, which begins July 6.
