@CanesRowing Ready for Cardinal Invitational
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — The University of Miami rowing team will open its 2017 spring season at the sixth annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational.
The Hurricanes will have five boats in action at the two-day regatta held at the Melton Lake Rowing Venue. The list of teams scheduled for the event include Clemson, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Tulsa, Virginia and West Virginia. Racing is set to begin at 9:14 am ET on Saturday morning, 3:10 pm on Saturday afternoon and 9:14 am on Sunday morning.
“I am extremely excited for this team to start racing,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “They have been working hard, working consistently and continually improving in practice. The team will have three racing opportunities throughout the weekend against conference and non-conference opponents. It will be awesome for them to lineup at the start line and finally just go. We will be trying to improve each stroke of each race throughout the weekend. We obviously want to race well and come away with some specific, positive results, but it is also an important weekend to assess where we are as a team and to confirm what the next steps will be for speed increase through the season.”
Miami will race out of Lane 5 in the morning session and face off against Tulsa, Minnesota and Tennessee. The varsity 8 will be the first boat in action, opening the day at 9:14 a.m., followed by the 1V4+ at 9:22 a.m., and the novice 8 at 9:30 a.m. The Hurricanes’ 2V8+ is set to race at 9:38 a.m., and the 2V4+ will close out the morning session at 9:46 a.m.
Saturday afternoon’s session will put the Canes in Lane 3 against boats from Virginia, Louisville and Tulsa. The varsity 8 kicks off the racing at 3:10 p.m., followed by the 1V4+ at 3:18 p.m., and the novice 8 at 3:26 p.m. The Hurricanes’ 2V8+ is scheduled to compete at 3:34 p.m., and the 2V4+ will wrap up the day’s racing at 3:42 p.m.
Sunday will be the final race for each of Miami’s boats and the Canes will run out of Lane 4 against Kansas, Clemson and Minnesota. The varsity 8 hits the water at 10:18 a.m., followed by the 1V4+ at 10:26 a.m., and the novice 8 at 10:34 a.m. The Hurricanes’ 2V8+ will race at 10:42 a.m., and the 2V4+ will close out the weekend at 10:50 a.m.
