The Matchup Between Miami and Columbia
Miami is 2-1 all-time against Columbia.
In their last meeting in 2000, the Hurricanes defeated the Lions 65-41. Miami’s starting five in that game featured future NBA ProCanes James Jones and John Salmons.
The first matchup between these teams came all the way back on December 18, 1952. Columbia narrowly edged Miami 65-59.
New York native Jim Larrañaga has never faced Columbia in his head coaching career.
This is Miami’s second game this season against an Ivy League school. The Hurricanes defeated Penn 74-62 earlier this year.

From the Archives: Columbia vs. Miami, Nov. 21, 2000
Reserve guard Joe Gordon scored six points in a 17-0 second-half run as the Miami Hurricanes pulled away from Columbia en route to a 65-41 win at Miami Arena. The run, which spanned the first 10 minutes of the season half, enabled Miami (2-0) to build a 46-22 lead and virtually finished off the Lions (1-2). Columbia cut the deficit to 49-36 with less than five minutes remaining, but could not get any closer. Joe Case’s 3-point field goal with 9:32 remaining broke Columbia’s drought. Miami’s Marcus Barnes scored eight of his team-high 12 points in the final two minutes. John Salmons added 11. “I thought this would be a good test for us, with Columbia being such a patient team,” first-year Miami coach Perry Clark said. “We showed our maturity in the second half by not rushing shots.” The Hurricanes’ defense led to eight first-half steals and several fast-break opportunities. Darius Rice and James Jones each scored seven first-half points to lead the Hurricanes, but Victor Munoz kept Columbia within single digits by scoring 12 points, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range.

19-Straight Wins at Home
Miami has won 19 straight games at the Watsco Center, with a 6-0 mark this season, added to 13 straight victories in the 2015-16 campaign. UM’s last loss at home was Nov. 27, 2015, when the Canes fell, 78-77, to Northeastern.
