@CanesRowing Ready for Fall Finale vs. UCF

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami rowing team will wrap up the fall with a home regatta against UCF Friday afternoon.

The Hurricanes and Knights will compete in head-to-head racing action as part of a novice scrimmage on the Indian Creek. Miami will have two novice eights racing against three UCF novice eights.

“The novices have been working very hard for an opportunity to race this fall,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “They have shown a lot of persistence getting to this point and everyone is excited for them as they begin their competitive careers as UM varsity athletes.”

Race pieces will begin at 1 p.m., at the Ronald W. Shane Watersports Complex. Spectators are encouraged to watch from the Indian Creek Park near the finish line.

“This is an incredibly eager and tenacious group of student-athletes that came into this program with little to no knowledge of the sport and have superseded many of the expectations and goals I have set for them already,” Miami assistant coach Claire Frenkel said. “I am extremely excited for these women to have their first racing experience tomorrow on our home course.”

Friday’s scrimmage is the fourth and final event of the Hurricanes’ 2016 fall schedule. Miami opened the fall with a scrimmage against Barry University and also competed at the Head of the Indian Creek and the Head of the Charles.

The spring session of racing will begin with a scrimmage in February before kicking into high gear on March 11-12 at the Cardinal Invite in Chattanooga, Tenn. A week later, the Canes will travel to Fellsmere, Fla., to race against Columbia and Florida Tech on March 18.

Miami will compete at a regatta in Sarasota, Fla., the weekend of March 31-April 1 before heading to the Knecht Cup on April 8-9. The Canes will travel to UCF on April 29 for their final competitive races before the ACC Championships, scheduled for May 13-14 in Clemson, S.C. The NCAA Rowing Championships are slated for May 26-28 at Lake Mercer in Windsor, N.J.
