Lohan Drops Opener at USTA/ITA National Indoors
FLUSHING, N.Y. – Sinead Lohan of the University of Miami women’s tennis team came up short Thursday morning in the first round of the singles main draw at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
Ranked fifth nationally and seeded seventh in the tournament, Lohan fell to No. 39 Viktoriya Lushkova of Oklahoma State, 4-6, 4-6, in a matchup of two-time ITA All-Americans at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
For Lohan, the defeat snapped her six-match winning streak and moved her to 8-2 in singles matches this fall. Additionally, it marked just the fifth time the junior, who possesses an 86-16 career singles record, has been topped by a player ranked lower than her.
Lohan, who hails from Waterford, Ireland, will continue play Friday at 1 p.m., when she takes on Columbia’s Rima Asatrian in opening round back draw action. Lohan defeated Asatrian, 6-0, 6-3, in the spring of 2016 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
