Six Track Women Named USTFCCCA All-Academic
NEW ORLEANS – Six members of the University of Miami women’s track and field team were selected to the 2016 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
Dakota Dailey-Harris, Brittny Ellis, Jamika Glades, Ebony Morrison, Tiffany Okieme and Anna Runia were among the 910 women who earned All-Academic honors following the 2016 track and field season.
Dailey-Harris adds another All-Academic award after sweeping All-ACC Academic honors in 2016. The senior, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport administration in May, earned the fourth All-ACC Academic award of her career. Dailey-Harris was a Second Team All-American in the high jump, placing 10th at the NCAA Championships. She also set the school record in the high jump in 2016, clearing 1.85m. Dailey-Harris, who finished her career with a 3.37 GPA, earned Book Buster (3.0), Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.2), Dean’s List (3.5) and Provost’s Honor Roll (3.75) accolades in her final semester at Miami.
Ellis earned her third All-Academic award, adding the USTFCCCA All-Academic honor to a pair of All-ACC Academic selections. The freshman earned First Team All-America honors after helping the Hurricanes finish seventh in the women’s 4x400m at the NCAA Championships. The Gurnee, Ill., native also helped the Canes run the fifth-fastest time in school history, posting a time of 3:29.68 in the semifinals at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Ellis was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that set an ACC Championship record at the 2016 conference meet with a time of 3:30:61. A nursing major, Ellis has a 3.71 GPA through one year of college.
Glades was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree for the second time in her career, adding the accolade to three All-ACC Academic awards. The senior, who earned Book Buster (3.0) and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.2) distinctions this spring, graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finished her career at Miami with a 3.24 GPA. A native for Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Glades qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles. She scored for the Hurricanes in both events at the ACC Championships, placing fourth in the 400m hurdles and seventh in the 100m hurdles.
Morrison collected her third All-Academic award of the year. An All-ACC Academic selection for both indoor and outdoor track and field, the junior transfer from Auburn has a 3.37 GPA and earned her second All-ACC Academic honor after a semester in which she was named a Book Buster (3.0) selection. The Miami native was a Second Team All-American in the 100m hurdles and on the 4x100m relay. Morrison also earned a bronze medal at the ACC Championships in the 100m hurdles and was a member of Miami’s ACC champion and school record setting 4x100m relay. She smashed the school record in the 100m hurdles at the NCAA East Preliminary, running a time of 12.76 seconds.
Okieme earned her second academic recognition of the year, as the senior was named All-ACC Academic following the indoor track and field season. A silver medalist in the women’s weight throw at the ACC Indoor Championships, Okieme earned first team All-ACC honors thanks to her personal-best throw of 21.42m that ranks third in UM history. She also competed at the NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing 10th in the women’s weight throw. The senior also competed at the NCAA East Preliminary and scored for Miami in the women’s hammer throw at the ACC Outdoor Championships. A three-time All-ACC Academic selection, Okieme also ranks third in UM history in the women’s indoor shot put. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology in May.
Runia was named All-Academic for the second time in her freshman season, adding the award to an All-ACC Academic selection following the outdoor track and field season. The freshman has a 4.00 GPA for her career, earning Book Buster (3.0), Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.2), Dean’s List (3.5), Provost’s Honor Roll (3.75) and President’s Honor Roll (4.0) recognitions in both semesters of her first year at Miami. The Netherlands native ran the opening leg of the 4x400m relay at the NCAA East Preliminary, helping the Hurricanes advance to the NCAA Championships.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
