Joseph Ryan Named Men's All-ACC Academic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Miami senior Joseph Ryan was selected to the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field All-ACC Academic Team, as announced Wednesday by conference commissioner John Swofford. 

Ryan was among the 49 honorees named All-ACC Academic for the 2016 outdoor track and field season. Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team. 

“Joey has been a hard working and dedicated member of our team for four years,” Miami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem said. “He always gave his all in everything he did, whether it was on the track or with his academics. It’s great to see him earn recognition for his hard work.”

A health science major, Ryan earned the second All-ACC Academic honor of his career. He was also selected to the 2016 All-ACC Academic team for men’s indoor track and field. The Port St. Lucie, Fla., native was a Book Buster (3.0 GPA) in his final semester at Miami and earned his bachelor’s degree in May. Ryan was a member of the men’s 4x400m relay team that finished fourth at the ACC Championships with a time of 3:09.03 that ranks fifth in school history.

On Wednesday morning, Carolyn Brown, Dakota Dailey-Harris, Brittny Ellis, Jamika Glades, Ebony Morrison and Anna Runia were among the 54 student-athletes named to the Women’s All-ACC Academic for the 2016 outdoor track and field season.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the current academic year, will be released in July. 

Every member the 2016 All-ACC Academic Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Team also earned All-Conference honors, was named an ACC Performer of the Week on at least one occasion and/or participated in at least one event at the NCAA Finals.
