@CanesRowing Opens at ACC Championship
CLEMSON, S.C. — The University of Miami rowing team competed against its conference foes on the opening day of the 2016 ACC Rowing Championship.
The Canes had four boats in action on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C., Friday evening and each boat advanced to petite finals on Saturday.
“All of our boats raced hard but came up a little short,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “The fours will look to improve their boat speed for the petite finals tomorrow. The eights had some very close racing today and are ready for the opportunity to compete in more close races tomorrow.”
The Hurricanes’ 1V8+ finished fourth in Heat 2 of the Varsity Eight event with a time of 6:38.287. Miami’s top varsity boat advanced to the Petite Final, scheduled for 8:05 a.m., on Saturday.
Miami’s 2V8+ finished fifth in Heat 1 of the Second Varsity Eight event with a time of 6:59.565. The race was the tightest of the evening, with Miami finishing just behind North Carolina in a photo finish. The Canes will race in the Petite Final at 8:30 a.m., on Saturday.
The Hurricanes’ 1V4+ placed fifth in Heat 1 of the First Varsity Four event with a time of 8:07.588. Miami’s 1V4+ will compete in Saturday’s Petite Final at 8:55 a.m.
Miami’s 2V4 finished fourth in Heat 2 of the Second Varsity Four event with a time of 8:04.749. The Hurricanes advanced to the Petite Final, scheduled for 9:20 a.m., Saturday.
The ACC Rowing Championship will be streamed live on ESPN3 on Saturday beginning at 8:05 a.m., with Sam Gore handling the play-by-play and Steve Pritzker providing analysis. There is no charge for admission.
