Student-Athlete Talent Show Set for April 18
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The second-annual University of Miami Student-Athlete Talent Show, Canes on Stage, will take place Monday, April 18, at 7 p.m.
Held at the Grand Ballroom in the Shalala Student Center, doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The event, run by UM’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, is open to the entire University campus community and light refreshments will be served.
“The Student-Athlete Talent Show is a great way to showcase the many talents and creativity that some of our student-athletes have,” UM Director of Student-Athlete Development Shirelle Jackson said. “It is also an opportunity to have our campus community engage with our student-athlete population outside of the athletic realm.”
Judges for the show will be Sun Sentinel writer Christy Cabrera Chirinos, UM Assistant Director of Student Programs Alex Martin and UM Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Education and Psychological Studies Dr. Laura Kohn-Wood.
Members of least six different UM athletics teams are expected to showcase their talents Monday night. Football, rowing, soccer, swimming, men’s track & field and women’s track & field are all set to be on the docket.
The event will also serve as a fundraiser for The Debbie School, which is a center for early intervention, research, education and training, for families with children who have special needs. The Debbie School is within the Department of Pediatrics at Miller School of Medicine. Donations will be accepted at the show from anyone who wishes to contribute.
