MERCER COUNTY, N.J. — The University of Miami rowing program has 11 boats scheduled to race at the 2016 Knecht Cup.

The Hurricanes entered three varsity 8s, four varsity 4s and four pairs in the 2016 Knecht Cup, scheduled for April 9-10 on Mercer Lake in West Windsor Township, N.J.

“I’m looking forward to another great weekend of racing from the team,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “The athletes had a good, focused week of practice all while managing a tough travel schedule. We just need to keep finding ways to improve throughout the regatta and we will have a successful weekend.”

The pairs will be the first boats in action on Saturday, with Miami’s ‘A’ pair of Alison Whitty and Taegan Lynch racing out of Lane 1 in Heat 1 of the Varsity Pair event. Caitlin Lowe and Sarah Aschebrock, who won the Head of the Hooch pairs event, will race as Miami ‘B’ out of Lane 3 in Heat 2, while Jane Moore and Alex Gunner will race our of Lane 6 as Miami ‘D’. Caitlin White-Parsons and Hannah Nielsen team up to race as Miami ‘C’, and the duo will race out of Lane 1 in Heat 3. The fastest time in each heat, plus the next three fastest times, will advance to the final.

The Canes have three boats competing in the women’s varsity four event, where the top two times in each of the six heats and the next six fastest times will advance to the semifinals. Miami ‘B’ is the first boat set to compete, racing out of Lane 1 in Heat 2 scheduled for 7:42 a.m.  Miami ‘C’ will race out of Lane 6 in Heat 3, while Miami ‘A’ is scheduled to run out of Lane 2 in Heat 6.

The Hurricanes also have a boat competing in the women’s second varsity four event, racing out of Lane 5 in Heat 3. The top two boats in each heat and the next four fastest overall times will advance to the semifinal.

Miami’s 1V8+ will look to build off its success as Cal Cup champions at least week’s San Diego Crew Classic with a strong showing in the women’s varsity eight event at Knecht Cup. The Hurricanes will race in Lane 1 of Heat 1, scheduled for 10:24 a.m. The top three times in each heat along with the next three fastest overall times will advance to the semifinals.

The 2V8+ will compete in Heat 2 of the women’s second varsity eight event, running out of Lane 2 at 11:34 a.m. The top four times in each heat plus the next two fastest overall times will advance to the semifinals.

Miami’s final boat of the day will be the 3V8+, competing in the women’s third varsity eight event at 4:42 p.m. The Hurricanes will race out of Lane 4 in Heat 1 of an event where the top two finishers in each heat and the next two fastest overall times will advance to the final.

Following this weekend’s action, the Canes will host UCF on April 23 in the lone home event of the 2016 season. In addition to racing against the Knight, Miami seniors Aschebrock, Lowe, Nielsen, Joletta Silva, White-Parsons, Whitty and Williamson will race on their home course for the final time.
