The Canes are looking to bounce back after playing No. 66 Duke University. Miami won the doubles point, but lost the rhythm in singles. It was sole junior Max Andrews who was able to put Miami on the board in singles at the No. 2 position, but Miami was not able to capitalize and fell to the Blue Devils, 5-2.
This will be the 36th meeting between Miami and North Carolina, with the Canes posting a 23-13 all-time record against the Tar Heels. The last meeting between the two was exactly a year ago from Sunday’s match. The Canes travelled to Chapel Hill and fell to North Carolina, 7-0.
The Tar Heels come to Coral Gables with a 15-1 record for the spring. Entering Sunday’s match, UNC comes off of a loss against No. 51 Florida State 4-3. Like Miami, North Carolina now upholds an ACC record of 1-1.
North Carolina claims five players in the ITA singles ranking including No. 12 Ronnie Schneider, No. 29 Brett Clark, No. 38 Brayden Schnur, No. 74 Jack Murray and No. 89 Robert Kelly. The Tar Heels also have two doubles teams on the ITA list with No. 3 Brett Clark and Robert Kelly and No. 30 Brayden Schnur and Jack Murray. Miami still holds lone sophomore Piotr Lomacki at the No. 28 spot.
After a long home court stretch Miami will hit the road to take on two ACC opponents, Boston College and No. 38 Notre Dame. The Canes will make their first stop in Chestnut Hill, Mass., Friday, March 18 and then head to Notre Dame, Ind. on Sunday, March 20.
