Templeton Set for U.S. National Team Tryouts
COLORADO SPRINGS Colo. – University of Miami sophomore Haley Templeton is one of over 200 athletes looking to earn a chance to represent the United States in international competition.
Templeton is among the 231 athletes from 88 colleges and universities participating in the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts, held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Feb. 19-21.
Participants will be vying for spots on the U.S. Women’s National Team, the U.S. Collegiate National Teams program and the U.S. Junior National Team. Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women’s National Team staff will lead the tryout process, with selected athletes notified by early March. USA Volleyball will then announce the selections by the end of the month once all roster spots are confirmed.

Templeton had a stellar sophomore season for the Hurricanes, receiving AVCA All-Region recognition for the second time in her career. A Preseason All-ACC selection, Templeton proved her abilities on the court to earn All-ACC Second Team honors. The setter finished the 2015 campaign with eight double-doubles, tying with Olga Strantzali for second most on the team. Templeton, who recorded 1,261 assists on the year, averaged 10.69 assists per set to rank fourth in the ACC.
A dangerous server, Templeton ranked second on the Hurricanes with 31 service aces on the season. The Alpharetta, Ga., native set new career highs in assists, recording 56 assists against Duke on Oct. 11 and against NC State on Oct. 16. She also set tied her career-high for service aces in a match, recording three services aces at Wake Forest on Oct. 9 and against Syracuse on Oct. 25.
Templeton is a highly decorated Hurricane in her two seasons of collegiate volleyball. Beyond her 2015 AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention selection and her All-ACC and All-ACC Academic awards, Templeton was a five-time ACC Freshman of the Week selection a year ago. Her outstanding freshman season ended with a host of accolades including earning 2014 ACC Freshman of the Year, 2014 AVCA East Coast Region Freshman of the Year, 2014 All-ACC Freshman Team and 2014 All-ACC Second Team honors.
