CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team announced today that high school standouts Macarena Aguilera, Renate Grimstad and Filippa Möörk have signed national letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic endeavors, beginning in the fall of 2016.

All three players will bring a tremendous amount of national and international experience to Coral Gables next fall.

“With these three recruits and the three existing players we will be six players deep for next season,” said head coach Patti Rizzo. “It’s the first time in my  11 years of coaching that I can say I have six very solid players.”

Aguilera comes to Miami from Pilar, Argentina where she captured the 2014-15 Women’s Amateur No. 1 ranking. In addition, Aguilera captured four-consecutive metropolitan regional titles (2011-14). At the conclusion of the 2014-15 campaign, Aguilera earned the No. 1 National Ranking after she finished first in the Argentino pinguinos championship, posting rounds of 70, 69 and 69.

“Macarena is a hidden secret,” Rizzo said “She is an up and coming star in Argentina. Her progress and scores have been amazing in the past year and I know from her coaches that she is a committed hard worker with tons of talent.”

Aguilera concluded her amateur career in 2015 by earning medalist honors in eight tournaments. She also represented Argentina in the prestigious Torneos Internacionales where she helped guide her team to a winning performance.

Grimstad will arrive in Coral Gables next season from Bergan, Norway. She will join the team following an impressive 2015 campaign where she posted five Top 10 finishes. Among the Top 10 finishes, Grimstad won the National Junior Championship in Norway, posting rounds of 70, 69 and 77. In addition, Grimstad placed second at the National Women’s Championship.

“I watched Renate play at the Orange bowl last year,” Rizzo said. “The minute I saw her I  was totally impressed with her power and swing. She is skilled in all parts of her game.”

Möörk, who hails from Varmland, Sweden, will join the Hurricanes with a significant amount of international experience. In 2015, Möörk competed in the World Junior Championship, the team World Junior Championship and the Spanish Ladies Amateur Championship. She is currently ranked No. 144 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

“Filippa is a great player and a long ball striker,” Rizzo said. “She has won many tournaments internationally. We are so fortunate to have her on our team.”
