Olga Strantzali Named ACC Player of the Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Olga Strantzali was named ACC Player of the Week after her stellar play helped the Hurricanes earn victories over No. 17 Florida State and Virginia last week.

Strantzali played some of the best volleyball of her Hurricane career this past week, helping Miami earn victories over No. 17 Florida State and a Virginia squad that is among the Top 50 teams in RPI.

The sophomore was instrumental in the Hurricanes’ impressive four-set victory over the Seminoles on Wednesday night. Playing before a capacity crowd of 1,200 at the James L. Knight Sports Complex, Strantzali had one of her best games as a Hurricane. The talented outside hitter finished with 16 kills on a team-leading .464 hitting percentage. Strantzali also tied her career-high with five service aces and added eight digs and two blocks in the victory.

Two days later, Strantzali continued her stellar play against Virginia. The standout sophomore posted seven kills and was supremely efficient, hitting .667 to lead all Canes while adding two service aces and a block in a three-set sweep of the Cavaliers.

Strantzali finished the weekend with 23 kills, making just four errors on 37 attempts to post an outstanding .514 hitting percentage for the week. She also posted seven service aces, averaging an ace per set for the week while helping the Hurricanes improve to 10-4 in ACC play and 17-7 overall.

A Preseason All-ACC selection, Strantzali earned her first ACC weekly award and becomes the second Hurricanes player to win an ACC weekly award this season. Senior Taylor Scott was named ACC Player of the Week on Sept. 14 after an outstanding weekend at the LSU Tournament in which she was named Tournament MVP and to the All-Tournament Team after helping the Canes beat No. 20 Purdue and the host LSU Tigers.

Strantzali and her Hurricanes teammates are back in action this weekend as Louisville and Notre Dame will travel to The Knight to play the middle two matches of a six-match homestand. The Canes will host Louisville at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13, while Notre Dame will face Miami at 1 p.m. on Nov. 15.

Duke and Wake Forest will also travel to Miami as part of the extended homestand that runs through Nov. 22. All Miami home matches are played at the James L. Knight Sports Complex on the University of Miami campus and admission is free.
