TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country team competed at the 2015 ACC Cross Country Championships Friday morning.
Miami had 13 student-athletes compete in the 2015 ACC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships held at the Apalachee Regional Park, in Tallahassee, Florida. Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths
“Everyone came out today and gave it their all,” Griffiths said. “I think there were spots in each race where they could have made a move. We will continue to get better each day and look forward to the results in our next race.”
Junior Gabrielle Hesslau was Miami’s top finisher in the women’s 6K, crossing the finish line with a time of 21:43.2 that ranks third on UM’s all-time women’s 6K list. Freshman Anne Den Otter was the next Cane to finish the race, posting a time of 22:44.1 that missed qualifying for Miami’s Top 10 list. Sophomore Mulloy Manning completed the Top 3 Hurricanes with a time of 24:34.7. Carla Rodriguez, Andrea Harrah and Kelly Williamson rounded out a women’s team that placed 15th with 450 points.
“Even though Gabby and Anne ran tremendous races, they both could have put themselves in better positions early in the race that would have benefitted them in the end,” Griffiths said.
Miami’s men were led by sophomore Sean Grossman, who completed the 8K in 26:01.2. Junior Jon Keller was the next Hurricane man to cross the finish line, posting a time of 26:47.7, while senior Kevin Marsh finished in 27:20.9. Sean Hagert, Nick Kaleel, David Maldonado and Luke Dublirer also competed for a Miami men’s team that placed 15th with 488 points.
“Sean has shown so much improvement in a year,” Griffiths said. “He continues to push the envelope. We need more guys that are ready to accept that challenge like Sean has.”
