Canes Sit In Fifth at Jim West Challenge

TOERNE, Texas – The University of Miami women’s golf team sits in fifth place after it shot a four-over-par score of 292 in round one play at the 2015 Jim West Challenge.

The three-day event is being held at the par 72, 6,373-yard Tapatio Spring Golf Resort.

Freshman Dewi Weber led the way for the Hurricanes after she carded an opening round score of three-under-par 69 and is tied for second.

Weber fired an even par 35 on the front nine.  She then reeled off three straight birdies to open the back nine. Weber finished the back nine with a bogey on hole 13 and then a birdie on 18.

Junior Daniela Darquea is also in the hunt as she posted an opening round two-under-par 70 and is tied for fifth. Darquea’s front nine was highlighted with a birdie on hole one, while her back nine scorecard featured three bogeys and four birdies.

Kent State and Texas A&M are tied for the team lead after both teams shot a three-under-par 285.

Round two action begins Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. EST.
