Taylor Scott Named ACC Player of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Miami’s Taylor Scott was named the ACC Player of the Week for women’s volleyball, the conference announced Monday.
Scott played a major role in helping the Hurricanes go 2-0 at the LSU tournament this past weekend. The senior earned All-Tournament and Tournament MVP honors after stellar play in victories over No. 20 Purdue and the host LSU Tigers.
On Saturday, Scott recorded 14 kills and a team-high 22 digs, adding four blocks and a service ace against the Boilermakers. The senior recorded her second double-double of the season, while her 22 digs were a career-high.
Scott’s strong play was essential in helping Miami earn its first win over a ranked team since beating No. 12 North Carolina in five sets on Nov. 3, 2013. The victory over the 20th-ranked Boilermakers was also the program’s first win over a ranked opponent away from Coral Gables since Miami beat No. 15 Wisconsin in four sets in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Dec 7, 2002.
A day later Scott came out and recorded her second double-double in as many days, tallying 14 kills and 13 digs in a four-set win over LSU.
Scott earned ACC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her Miami career and she the first Hurricane to win an ACC weekly award in 2015.
Miami will close out the non-conference portion of its 2015 schedule this week with the FIU/Miami Challenge, hosting Seattle University at 7 pm on Sept. 17 and UCF at 7 PM on Sept. 18. Both matches will be played at the James L. Knight Sports Complex and admission is free.
