Five Questions

Q: What has been your favorite part of being a Hurricane?

A: The school spirit here is unbelievable. Before coming to UM I had never been in such a positive environment.

Q: What are you most excited for about being in college?

A: I love all the opportunities we have as college students, but especially Miami Hurricanes; being able to explore academically in such a diverse city is an unparalleled experience that only lasts these four years. I’m excited to absorb as much as I can!

Q: How does running in college differ from running in high school?

A: The level of competition is much higher, and so are the expectations.

Q: What did your weekly mileage get up to at the high point?

A: My highest weeks have been around 50-55 miles.

Q: Tell me how you got started in the sport and whether you excelled right away or if it was a more gradual process of getting to a high level?

A: I started running in middle school, and it’s definitely been a gradual process. I can remember a lot of run-walking my first summer running. That said, even eight years later, my focus is still on gradual improvement.

Q: What are you working on this fall to be able to better for at the ACC Championships?

A: I’m focused primarily on staying healthy by doing the right things outside of practice: icing, eating right, and sleeping. In practice I am working on my mental game during long tempo runs and my finishing kick with quick 200s.

Q: What was the biggest adjustment for you since your freshmen year?

A: I know how to better take care of myself this year versus last year in order to perform well in practice and meets. Freshman year was about transitioning to college and working hard, and while this year is a continuation of that, the results are starting to show.

Q: Do you prefer a tactical race, or do you like a race that’s fast from the gun?

A: I definitely prefer fast races; my kick isn’t as strong as I would like it to be, so it’s to my advantage to get out hard.

Q: Do you have a favorite workout during cross country, one that you think is especially beneficial?

A: This year I really enjoy our long tempos on the track. For me, the hardest part of the race is the mental battle, and tempos are a great way to train my mind to stay focused through the discomfort.

Q: How about track versus cross country? Do you prefer one over the other, and is cross country primarily preparation for track?

A: I love cross country. Track and I are generally on rockier terms, but we’re working on it.
