Canes Announce 2015 Cross Country Schedule
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country program released its 2015 schedule Wednesday.
The Canes will run in four races in preparation for the ACC Championships in late October.
“We are excited about the schedule for this coming season,” Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said. “It will provide the challenges we need to prepare for the championship part of the season.”
Miami opens their season at the FAU Invitational on Sept. 4, before traveling to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the Mountain Dew Invitational on Sept. 19.
The Hurricanes will also run in the FSU Invitational (Oct. 2) and USF Invitational (Sept. 20) before returning to Tallahassee to compete in the 2015 ACC Championships on Oct. 30.
NCAA Regional Championships are slated for Nov. 13 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., with the NCAA Championships taking place a week later in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 21.
The Canes have talented runners returning in 2015 on both the men’s and women’s teams.
Miami’s women will be led by junior Gabrielle Hesslau. The Downers Grove, Ill., native made great strides in her sophomore campaign. Hesslau was Miami’s top finisher in every race she ran during the 2014 season, including victories at the FAU Invitational and Westminster Academy Invitational, as well as a time of 22:49 at the Paul Short Run that ranks 10th all-time on Miami’s women’s 6K list.
The women’s team also brings back several student-athletes with racing experience including sophomore Mulloy Manning, juniors Megan Brown and Janine DePree and senior Kelly Williamson.
The men’s team has a balance of youth and experience heading into the 2015 season. Sophomores Sean Grossman and Adam George will look to build off their solid freshman season a year ago and step into leadership roles, while junior Jon Keller and senior Kevin Marsh bring maturity and experience to the Hurricane men’s squad.
