Canes Tee off at Briar's Creek Invite Monday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 38 University of Miami women’s golf team returns to action at the 2015 Briar’s Creek Invitational at the par 72, 6,101-yard Golf Club at Briar’s Creek. The two-day event begins Monday and will conclude on Tuesday.

THE BASICS
-54-hole tournament. 
-36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
-The College of Charleston will serve as the tournament host.

THE LINEUP
Daniela Darquea
-Enters the Briar’s Creek Invitational after tying for 18th at the Hurricane Invitational on March 4.
-Owns a team-best 73.39 scoring average through 18 rounds this season.
-Leads the team with 45 birdies.
-Tied for 14th at the UCF Challenge.
-Tied for fifth at the Florida Challenge to open the spring portion of the 2014-15 slate.

Kailey Walsh
-Owns a 74.47 scoring average in 15 rounds this season.
-Has tallied 39 birdies on the year.
-Posted her second Top 10 finish of the year at the Hurricane Invitational as she tied for second.
-Shot a team-best 72 to close out the UCF Challenge in her last appearance.
-Tied for sixth at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational to close out the fall campaign.

Leticia Ras-Anderica
-Has posted a scoring average of 74.64 in 11 rounds this year.
-Has tallied 24 birdies during the 2014-15 campaign.
-Carded a three-round score of 221 to tie for 27th at the Hurricane Invitational in her last appearance.
-Tied for 30th at the UCF Challenge in her last appearance.
-Tied for fifth at the Florida Challenge to open the spring portion of the 2014-15 slate.

Rika Park
-Holds the team’s second-best scoring average (73.50).
-Fired a second round score of 69 at the Hurricane Invitational en route to a top 15 finish (T13).
-Tied for 19th at the UCF Challenge.
-Tied for 19th in the 2015 Florida Challenge.
-Missed the 2014 fall campaign due to injury. 

Delfina Acosta
-Ranks second on the team in birdies with 44.
-Owns a 75.78 average through 18 rounds this season.
-Tied for 13th at the 2015 Florida Challenge.
-Saw action in every tournament during the fall campaign.
-Named to the 2014 All-ACC Academic Team.

LAST TIME OUT
The University of Miami women’s golf team placed second at the 2015 Hurricane Invitational on March 4. The Hurricanes posted a three-round tournament total of 865.
The event was held at the par 71, 6,070-yard Biltmore Golf Course.

The Hurricanes entered the final round 13 shots behind Northwestern and just missed overtaking the Wildcats for the team title. Miami finished just six shots behind the Wildcats, which finished the tournament with a three-round total of 859

The Hurricanes’ final round score of 290 was tied for second lowest among the 16-team field.
Junior Kailey Walsh (Boca Raton, Fla.) tied for second with a three-round total of 214 to pace the Hurricanes. The Miami junior fired a final round score of two-under-par, 69.

CHIRP CHIRP
Three of Miami’s top five golfers have combined for 128 birdies this season. Sophomore Daniela Darquea leads the way with 45 followed by fellow sophomore Delfina Acosta with 44, while junior Kailey Walsh has 39 birdies.

AMONG THE BEST
Miami’s runner-up finish at the Hurricane Invitational March 4 marked the fourth time this season UM has placed in the top five. Miami’s other top five finishes came at the East/West Match Play (5th/Sept. 22), the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational (5th/Oct. 14) and the Florida Challenge (1st/Jan.26).
