@CanesRowing Announces 2015 Spring Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing program will compete in six events in their 2015 spring season, head coach Dave Sanderson announced Wednesday.

The Hurricanes will row in six events this spring, culminating with a trip to the ACC Championships in May. Sanderson believes the competitive schedule will help Miami grow as it looks to peak at the conference regatta.

“I am excited about our spring schedule for 2015,” Sanderson said. “We are especially focused on racing the ACC Championship on May 15-16.  The schedule is designed to give us a range of racing opportunities throughout the season with a mix of dual races, as well as larger, multi-day regattas.  Each event is important and the schedule, as a whole, will help to develop our speed so we can be our fastest at ACCs in May. “

Miami will open the spring with a scrimmage against UConn on March 18. The scrimmage against the Huskies will be the Canes’ only racing at home in the 2015 season. Three days later, the Hurricanes will race against Columbia at a neutral site in Fellsmere, Fla.

The Canes will make another trip to the San Diego Crew Classic in 2015, racing on March 28-29. A year ago, Miami’s 1V8+ placed second in the Women’s Collegiate Invitational Petite Final, while the 2V8+ placed sixth in its final race on Mission Bay.

Miami opens the month of April with a trip to New Jersey, competing at the Knecht Cup on April 11-12. The Hurricanes will have their final race before the ACC Championships on April 25th at UCF and then will spend the next few weeks training for the ACC Championships on May 15-16 in Clemson, S.C.

The Canes placed sixth at the 2014 ACC Championships, the first two-day conference regatta in ACC history. But a strong 2014 fall season that included an 11th place finish in the Club 4+ event at the Head of the Charles and a solid showing at the Head of the Hooch has the Hurricanes looking to continue to improve heading into the 2015 season.
